Shobha De projects the world of the new woman by exposing the details of potentially true events in the world of the wealthy, independent women, their careless sexual adventures, and their numerous unfeminine attitudes. Men are supposed to give women social standing and gratify their sexual cravings in Shobha De's novel. They view marriage as a personal convenience and a formality. They do not hesitate to discard marriage if it does not fulfill that goal, clearing the way of any unwanted impediments. What fits them is morality. Since nothing is evil in these women's values, traditional morality is tossed to the winds. In actuality, their actions are perfectly legitimate, and no one has the right to pry into them. They become victims of their own carelessness while doing whatever they want. Many women develop extreme self-obsession. They fail to see that their crazy lifestyle puts their own young children at risk for a reckless lifestyle, which includes an excessive amount of sex, money, violence, and drug use. Shobha De situates her novels against this moral system, and each one paints a compelling picture of the real lives of the alluring high society women with all of their strengths and shortcomings.
