SPIRITUAL VALUES OF COLLEGE STUDENTS: AN EXPLORATORY STUDY

Abstract

Spiritual values develop a spiritual bond with the almighty God which helps to maintain good interpersonal relationships. It makes people positive and mentally stable and helps them regulate their emotions through self-realization and self-purification. Today value erosion has become a global burden among the new generation so the study aimed to explore the level of spiritual values of college students along with the objectives of raising general awareness and finding out the differences in spiritual values among students in accordance with their gender and stream. A descriptive survey method has been adopted.120 college students were drawn from the colleges of Kamrup District of Assam by using simple random sampling. A self-developed Spiritual values scale was employed and statistics like central tendency, percentage, SD, SED, and t-tests were also been employed to verify the hypotheses. It has been revealed that the majority of students possess low spiritual values and there exists no significant difference in spiritual values among the students concerning their gender, and stream. Lastly, It has been concluded that the students should be provided with a spiritual environment in school, family, and society so that they may be able to adopt their spiritual knowledge and develop spiritual values.
